A long time ago, the people used to tell eachother stories about a so called “Spiegelbrunnen” (mirror well), where a basilisk lived. They said that everybody who looks in his eyes, will die. Because of this, the people getting water were too afraid to look down at the well. One day, a girl, described as very self-advertising sat down at the well and looked at herself in a little mirror. Suddenly she had an idea: she held the mirror over the well, so that the basilisk looked in his own eyes and was thus transformed into stone.
Today, you can visit the “Spiegelbrunnen” at the corner of the Schäfflerstraße.
